artist’s statement
What interests me is the subjective quality of art and the power it has to communicate on an intuitive level in a way that is very different from the specificity of words. I want my work to make allusions to feelings, to time and to place while remaining vague.
My process and the resulting images function more like aesthetic archeological objects rather than painted or drawn images – they are a result of exploration into the unknown in order to find something that will inherently be unique because the process is personal and intuitive. My intention is that a work will raise feelings and associations but cannot be read literally. I believe this taps into the unique strengths of art – to communicate viscerally.
The process and the product of my work are inextricable from each other. The mysterious process of creating for me is analogous to living life itself: I make conscious decisions about my work while it is in progress but where it will go remains unknown until I am in it. My work, therefore, is the physical embodiment of the slow and gradual process of realization and transformation.
